Moving of memorial to Webb
Monday 31st December 2007, 10:06AM GMT.

In terms of quality, this isn’t the best photo we have ever published, but it does capture a moment in history, as it was taken exactly 50 years ago, on Tuesday, December 31, 1957, when the Captain Webb Memorial was moved from its original position outside the Lord Hill pub in Dawley.
It was done to make way for improvements at what was at the time a road junction. The memorial was re-erected outside what was Dawley Library, but it was subsequently moved again to a spot outside the town’s “civic centre” at Paddock Mount.
Eventually the memorial moved back to more or less its original location when Dawley High Street was pedestrianised.
