A former Powys County Council chairman has died in hospital at the age of 94.
Sydney Pritchard, formerly of The Bryn, Berriew, died in Welshpool Hospital on December 21.
Born in Berriew in 1913, Mr Pritchard was educated at the village school and in Welshpool before working on the family farm.
His long career in local government began in May 1949 when he was elected to the rural district council for Forden.
Mr Pritchard became vice chairman of Montgomeryshire council in 1967 and was also chairman of the education committee.
In 1979, he became chairman of Powys County Council and was a long-serving member of the council’s board, retiring only as he approached his 90th birthday. In June 1981 he was awarded the CBE for services to local government.
Mr Pritchard also served on the Rural Development Board of Wales and was a magistrate.
A funeral service will be held at Shrewsbury Crematorium on January 7 at 10.40am for family and close friends and will be followed at 2pm by a service at Refail Chapel, Berriew.
