Walk cash to aid hospice

Thursday 27th December 2007, 10:28AM GMT.

Walkers from across Shropshire turned out to burn off their Christmas dinners at a sponsored stroll.

The Boxing Day walk around Cheswardine raised more than £700 for Hope House Children’s Hospice – with more cash expected to be added in the coming days.

More than 60 people turned out to take part in the six mile walk – the fifth to be held in the village.

Joint organiser June Edwards said the walk was “wonderful”.

“We had about 60 people which was more than last year,” she said.

“We had a lot of new faces and several dogs.

“It was lovely and hopefully we will do it every year if people keep turning up.

“We are hoping to raise quite a bit for the children.

“Each year we have new people. We have quite a few people who have done it every year and each year there are new faces. Someone came from Wellington yesterday.

“It was lovely, the weather was wonderful.

“It was a very nice atmosphere.”

Mrs Edwards said her co-organiser, Bernard Lazarus, had been presented with plaques to commemorate the amount he and his helpers in the village have raised – £23,500 – for Hope House.

Anyone who wants to donate money for the walk can contact Mrs Edwards on (01630) 652529.
