Care site plans to be decided

A multi-million pound block of 28 extra care units and a healthy living centre could be built in Shrewsbury after plans were recommended for approval.Bosses of the Uplands at Bicton Heath want to build the two, two-storey buildings. They would house two-bedroom apartments and a wellness centre providing amenities for disabled or older people.
There is already an 80-bedroom nursing home at the site.
Officers are recommending the plans for approval in a report to Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council’s development control committee, which will discuss them on January 8.
A report to councillors says that each residential unit would feature a lounge and kitchen area in addition to a guest/carer room and a “wet room”.
The wellness building would include a swimming pool, gym, lounge and restaurant area for residents.
The accommodation would be for people in need of care packages who will benefit from 24 hour emergency cover.
Residents will need to prove they are over 60 and require an ongoing support package to enable them to live independently if they are to qualify for the safe and secure accommodation.
Officers are recommending the plans for approval.
Developers have said the units would provide a “different option” for disabled or older people who need support, but do not want to move into a care home.
