Elliott boo boys blasted
Monday 24th December 2007, 11:40AM GMT.
Wolves striker Jay Bothroyd has appealed for the Molinuex boo boys to lay off under-fire teammate Stephen Elliott, pictured, after the 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
The Irish striker endured another difficult afternoon as under-par Wolves struggled in the first half against Leicester – and was taken off at half-time after failing to make his mark.
The Molineux crowd made their feelings known but Bothroyd is hoping they show more patience towards his fellow forward in the future.
“Some of the fans were getting on Stephen Elliott’s back but I think he’s a quality player.
“At the end of the day he’s giving 100 per cent and I think that’s what the fans want at the end of the day – players giving 100 per cent for their club. You can’t ask for much more than that.
“He’s got the backing of all the boys – he’s a great professional. He gives everything in training and in games. I would hope the fans give him a little bit of backing because he is giving everything for this football club.
“He got taken off against Leicester but it’s a team game, we’ve got a squad of 22 and that will happen. He’ll bounce back.”
Wolves were booed off at half-time after failing to make inroads against their relegation threatened opponents – but the Molineux crowd helped spur them on in the second half.
And Bothroyd is hoping that the support shown in the second 45 minutes will be repeated in future home games. “With some players that criticism from your own fans can get to you and it doesn’t help the boys,” he said. “On occasions you need the crowd to spur you on.”

i understand what he is saying and respect him for standing up for his colleague but as a fa we look at the big picture which is MM is taking us down a very strange road this season with tactics transfers etc which frankly we find difficult to understand as none of it has worked PLUS he has talked to Korea about taking ion their coach role which makes me wonder what is going on ?

If he put away some of the chances he gets, then we wouldn’t have to give him the stick its as simple as that. mick should have freddie and keogh up front in my opinion. up the wolves south bank 4 eva

What do you expect when having your favourites in the team? Mick is not making decisions based on benefitting the club, rather making decisions benefitting himself, you are not bigger than the club, and you will find that out sooner rather than later.

What is it with Wolves management and players that makes them think they have a responsibility to educate fans in how to react. It`s quite simple really, play good football, win games and stop making excuses and then the fans will show their appreciation. You take the accolades now take the stick.
