£26,500 grant to reopen loo

Sunday 16th December 2007, 6:54AM GMT.

A Mid Wales town where public toilets were closed in a controversial county council cost-cutting move almost a year ago has secured Government cash to reopen them.

The £26,500 granted to Llani Ltd, the community regeneration group in Llanidloes which has been battling to get the facilities in Great Oak Street reopened since early this year, wants to spread the good news to other communities that also lost their public toilets.

The Welsh Assembly Government funding will be used to reopen the Great Oak Street toilets and investigate the possibility of reopening toilets at Bwlch-y-Gle.

Claire Jones from Llani Ltd said: “As soon as the opportunity became available to apply to the Local Environmental Quality Board of the Welsh Assembly Government back in September, we did so.

“We received the letter of confirmation that our application has been successful this week.”
