Filmed in Shropshire

Monday 10th December 2007, 9:00AM GMT.

With its lush countyside and historic towns, Shropshire has proved a popular setting for countless films and television series. Lara Page looks at the county’s diverse screen history.

Atonement at Stokesay

Last year’s wartime blockbuster Atonement, starring Keira Knightly and James McAvoy, is partly filmed in Stokesay Court in Onibury, which was used for the Tallis’ home in the movie. The set was visited by our Movie Blogger Carl Jones in September 2007, when he took an Atonement Tour of Stokesay Court with owner Caroline Magnus.

now living in Canada, I had to enter a recent competition on the national Entertainment TV show which was asking a question about the movie(atonement) and offering an all expenses trip to Shropshire.. there were plenty of links to the county. I had then to show my wife Stokesay castle as well on the web too. will hopefully be winning my way back home in the new year !!!

Don’t forget the 1950 film version of local writer Mary Webb’s Gone to Earth …. and John Cleese’s hilarious Clockwise, both filmed in and around Much Wenlock.

I remember very clearly “Take Me Home” being filmed, much of it was done in Sandbrook , Ketley and I seem to recall my [ now deceased ] mother`s bugalow appearing several times.

Does show how beautiful some parts of Shropshire are. Shame about the blot on the landscape Telford has become.

Roadrunner refers to “Take Me Home”: I am still having intensive counselling sessions in order to overcome the night terrors I have about Keith Barron appearing at my window.

An episode of Dalzial and Pascoe was filmed in North Shropshire, near Shotton Hall. I watched the filming from my house over the fields.
I now live in Canada so it nice to see some parts of home on the TV
