Eastwood aims to repay faith

Tuesday 4th December 2007, 11:42AM GMT.

Freddy EastwoodFreddy Eastwood heads for Barnsley determined to repay the faith and support of manager Mick McCarthy and the Wolves fans.

Eastwood is hoping a fixture away from Molineux will break a remarkable sequence of near misses as he looks for his first club goal since August.

Wolves aim to keep the pressure on Watford and Albion above them when they tackle a Barnsley side who have built a much-improved season around impressive form at Oakwell.

Since the opening day defeat by Coventry, Barnsley are unbeaten at home and have knocked over Plymouth, Scunthorpe, Bristol City, Preston, Blackpool and most recently leaders Watford.

But Eastwood is understandably looking forward to the away day as he searches for a change of goalscoring luck.

“In the last four home games I’ve started at Molineux (Hull, Barnsley, Colchester and Preston) I’ve hit the woodwork,” said Eastwood.

“Whether it’s with my head, left foot, right foot, everything seems to be hitting the post.

“Of course the fans want me to score like I do but it’s an added bonus they’re still supporting me.

“I got a standing ovation when I was taking off on Saturday which was great to hear.

“I’m desperate to return the favour by getting a few goals.”

Eastwood’s scoreless run since he hit both in the 2-1 defeat of Blackpool on August 25 amounts to the striker’s longest sequence without a goal since he broke into professional football at Southend three years ago.
