Woman flees fire attack

A woman fled her home through a window after an arson attack.The woman was woken by her fire alarm yesterday morning before escaping through a window of the flat in New Street, Wem.
Police said the blaze was started by accelerant being poured through the letter box and lit between 1.50am and 3am.
Firefighters were called to the flat just before 3am and spent an hour and a half tackling the flames.
The blaze caused about £2,500 of damage. The woman was unhurt.
Sub-officer Mike Beach, of Whitchurch fire station, said it was the latest in a spate of incidents in the area.
“The fire involved the area around the door, inside and outside, and is being treated as suspicious,” he said.
“We have been to the property before, and earlier this week someone had made malicious false calls.”
Police are treating the fire as arson. Constable Paul Frank appealed for witness to contact police on 08457 444888.
He said: “Things could have turned out much more serious.”
