Monday 3rd December 2007, 1:42PM GMT.
A 29-year-old man has died after his car crashed into a tree when it left a main road in Mid Wales. The victim was trapped in the wreckage of his car.
He suffered serious leg injuries and died just over three hours later in hospital, police said today.
The collision, involving a Ford Mondeo, happened on the A483, between Newtown and Llandrindod Wells.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said the car had been travelling towards Llandrindod Wells when it left the road near Llanbadarn Fynydd and hit a tree.
“The driver, a 29-year-old man from South Wales, was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital but sadly died from his injuries,” he said.
The accident happened shortly after 3pm on Friday. The victim died about three-and-a-half hours later.
The spokesman said the road was closed after the collision and initially reopened at 4.45pm. It was later closed between 7-11pm for further police investigations to be carried out.
A woman was seriously hurt when her car crashed on the B4568 Newtown to Aberhafesp road at about 2.20pm the following day.
Firefighters from Newtown were called to free the woman from her vehicle.
She was then airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where her condition was later described as “stable”.
Also on Saturday three people were treated by paramedics after the car they were travelling in left the road near Llanidloes and overturned. The incident happened on the B4569 Caersws to Trefeglwys Road, just after 2pm.
A fire service spokesman said: “One vehicle left the road and three casualties were treated at the scene.”
