“The Aqueduct, Dawley” by JH Smith, 1854.

For a change, let’s have a painting today in our Looking Back series of nostalgia pictures.

This is “The Aqueduct, Dawley” and the painting was done by JH Smith in 1854.

Just as Ironbridge is named after the historic Iron Bridge, so has this aqueduct given its name to a place – Aqueduct.

There are other examples around too, like Trench, which used to be called The Trench.

But what is the rock after which The Rock is named?

The painting comes from the Tonkin Collection.
