Posters aim to ease crime fear
Monday 26th November 2007, 11:39AM GMT.
Posters will be displayed across North Shropshire from today in a bid to allay fears about crime.
Hundreds of posters with information about crime rates will be put on Post Offices, letter boxes and postal vans.
About 60 royal mail vehicles will be taking part in the exercise, which will be rolled out nationwide if successful.
Rian Huxley, from North Shropshire District Council, said residents’ fear of crime often outweighed the reality, so the posters would ease minds.
She said crime in the district had been cut by about 25 per cent over recent years, and the posters, which would be carried in all north Shropshire post offices and postal vehicles, would advertise this to residents.
“Residents’ perceptions of crime outweigh the reality of it, so these posters have the number of the council on and the Crimestoppers number on too,” she said.
