Full house to lift England
Saturday 24th November 2007, 11:00AM GMT.
England women’s coach Hope Powell has called on a Shropshire full house to inspire her side to move a step closer to the 2009 European Championships tomorrow.
England play host to Spain at Shrewsbury Town’s Oteley Road stadium (6pm) with all 10,000 tickets for the qualifier sold.
England have already notched up 4-0 home wins over Belarus and Northern Ireland, with only one team guaranteed to qualify for the final in Finland from a five-team group which also includes Czech Republic.
Powell, whose side shot to prominence in reaching the World Cup quarter-final earlier this year, is hoping for some strong support from a bumper crowd.
“We seem to be playing in front of full houses all the time at the moment which is fantastic,” she said.
“Hopefully they can really get behind us and we can produce a good performance and result.
“The expectations have risen from the World Cup but I don’t feel any more pressure.
“Our objective at the moment is to qualify for the European Championships and we will not be looking beyond that.”
