Edwards might return to Shrews

Dave EdwardsShropshire’s latest international footballer Dave Edwards could make a shock return to Shrewsbury Town, it was revealed today.

Edwards’s club Luton Town went into administration on Thursday, 24 hours after the midfielder made his full international debut for Wales against Germany.

A solution to Luton’s financial predicament could be for Shrewsbury to waive the remainder of the £400,000 transfer fee owed by the League One club in exchange for the midfielder’s shock return.

Luton have become the latest to be gripped by a major financial crisis, going into administration on Thursday and suffering a 10-point penalty in which takes them to the bottom of League One.The severe money difficulties will place question marks over the future of several members of the Hatters’ squad, with Edwards’ position proving particularly intriguing for all Shrewsbury followers.

Having made his full Welsh debut against Germany in midweek, Edwards is sure to have his admirers in the top two divisions.

But with Luton owing a substantial slice of his transfer fee, which could rise up to £400,000, Shrewsbury could find themselves in a strong bargaining position with the administrator – if they are prepared to waive the debt in return for the return of the ex-Pontesbury schoolboy.

There remains £150,000 to come to Shrewsbury for the 22-year-old – should Edwards fulfil appearance criteria for both club and his country Wales.

And Town manager Gary Peters did little to play down a possible move for the attacking midfielder.

“I would welcome Dave back at any stage,” he said.

“He is a good, young athletic player who fits the bill of what we are trying to do here.”

Should the Town chief pull off a sensational return for Edwards, it is likely a get-out clause would have to be agreed if the midfielder became a target for a Championship or Premiership club.

Edwards left Shrewsbury under a cloud after being omitted from the Wembley squad for the play-off final against Bristol Rovers after refusing to sign a contract extension in the build-up to the game.

But Peters sent Edwards a congratulatory text message after the player made his Welsh debut as a substitute against the Republic of Ireland last Saturday.

Will this really happen? I doubt it.

Luton Town have already paid money up front for Dave Edwards. The balance is due from club appearances and international appearance. I’m not sure whether STFC have received the £50K for Dave’s international appearance but he has yet to complete the required amount of appearances for LTFC, so the “outstanding” £100K is not yet owing.

I couldn’t see GP putting him in the team either as we all know GP would rather cut off his nose to spite his face when it comes certain Town players when they have left the club.

I don’t think he would want to come back, there will be other bigger clubs in for him, GP wouldn’t want him back, and fourthly most people would rather have the money. Apart from that, its a done deal!

Gary Peter’s probably won’t have any say in whether Dave Edwards returns, as he’s not going to be around for much longer!! A terrible run of inept performances now has to be brought to a halt by some tough decision making by the Board.

It would be a team improving move to have him back, but with professional players getting bigger than their boots like Beckham ignoring cancer kids who had waited hours to see him arriving is Sydney I doubt if he could lower himself to returning.

What Game Eddo states is factually correct but Shrews are not the only club owed money by Luton Town.
There is also a bit of an issue going in Luton ref the siting of the ground and a new stadium so perhaps they might want to wipe the cash slate clean first. Dave Edwards is a good player and would get back in. He didn’t slag STFC off like Asamoah when he left, and if GP can get him on loan and pay his Luton wages then he would make a dynamic midfield trio with Ben Davies and Jimmy(the ghost)Ryan.

He will not come back he may move up a division though. Cash wise the administrator is in charge and we will be among many creditots I fear. Let’s accept he has moved on after all why would he want to return ? Up the Town.

Peters would have to sort out the way he would play Edwards,Dave likes to play attacking football but Peters want’s him to play more defensive.thats why they fell out.

Bring back edwards he would fit perfect into the midfield of pugh davies and drummond. At least it wood mean we could have one attacking midfielder in the middle rather than drummond and hunt two defence minded players,he might not want to come back peters should not try and stop him keep the faith up the shrews
