Opik leaves a lot to be desired

Friday 23rd November 2007, 11:40AM GMT.

As a regular reader of the Star for more years than I care to remember, I get rather annoyed at seeing the never-ending and nonsensical involvements of MP Lembit Opik.

It is amazing just what this individual will get up to in order to focus attention on himself. The latest silly behaviour (November 2) was with the Cheeky Girls at a function in London.

Whatever its purpose, it serves only to show just how this public representative behaves – a far cry from his predecessor Alex Carlile.

Time and time again the readers of the Star have to suffer idiotic antics by this zany individual, who I consider to be a disgrace to the position he holds.

Like many others, I would like to know how the Star gets hold of such photographs.

Is it any wonder why the Liberal Democrat Party is so low in the opinion polls, with such members as him?

To make matters worse, his sidekick, AM Mick Bates is no better.

If this is politics the sooner they are given the boot the better.

I can think of many more urgent causes that would benefit from the substantial payments these two receive.

I personally feel that there is little point in voting at all for anyone, as they are all tarred with the same brush.

Bernard Jones, Powys

I wonder if Bernard Jones has ever met Lembit Opik or Mick Bates?

A constituent of the the above politicians asked me to accompany him to meet them at the Four Crosses surgery last year as he was very concerned about the relationship between industrial PM2.5 air pollution and high rates of illness and premature death rates at all ages.

I found both politicians to be very decent people, and Lembit Opik was surprised that I’d been able to obtain data that he, as an MP, had been told didn’t exist.

Whatever your political alliance might be, anyone with an MP, or AM who is concerned about whatever concerns his or her constituents, is someone you should be glad to have.

If Bernard Jones has been let down by Lembit Opik or Mick Bates on a constituency matter, I’m sure that some paper would be glad to hear from him, as it’s the nature of political life in the UK to undermine politicians.

You mean there’s another person who’s a complete obsessive about this topic?

    God help us!

Politics does not want “characters” what it wants is honest and truthful individuals doing what the electorate wishes.
