Lift jammed at stadium
Monday 19th November 2007, 11:40AM GMT.
Firefighters were called to Shrewsbury Town Football Club’s new stadium after a lift jammed leaving wheelchair-bound fans stranded.
A crew was sent to the stadium in Oteley Road shortly before 5.30pm on Saturday following Shrewsbury’s home match against Barnet, which the Shrews won 1-0.
A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said: “We were called because the lift was jammed but when we got there there was nobody stuck in it. We assisted six people from the stadium.”
Nobody from Shrewsbury Town Football Club was available for comment today.

I imagine those fans that were stranded were mightily relieved…had they got to their normal viewing position they might have had to watch the whole game…..

the way town will start leaping up the league now they wont need lifts or escalators just 3 points a game should be enough

I know in these days of political correctness one shouldnt say things like this but in days gone by wheelchair users happily watched the match from the ground floor. Now the football club were required to spend large amounts of money on ensuring fire proof lifts were installed just so wheelchair users could access all the parts of the stadium that so called able bodied people could use. The fact that a lift malfunctioned is clearly unfortunate (and there can be no criticism of the club or anyone else things do occasionally go wrong!) but what it does show is the lunacy of the officials who make such daft policies and required the club to provide handicapped spaces above ground level. Lets just thank god there wasn’t a fire!

You’ve used the right name, it happened at 5.30, so they were fortunate enough to see the game
