Two men die in collisions

ambulance.jpgTwo Shropshire men have died in separate road collisions just hours apart. A man believed to be in his 60s died when his car crashed into a hedge yesterday.A pedestrian believed to be in his 70s died when he was hit by a car near Ludlow Racecourse hours later.

The first incident happened at 3.55pm near Clun.

A police spokesman said: “The car the man was driving careered off the road. He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he died about two hours later.

“It happened on the B4368. The driver was alone in a silver Rover 75 estate. The car veered across the road coming to rest in a hedge.”

Claudine Weeks, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said: “An ambulance crew was sent to the scene and found the man was having a heart attack.

“Full resuscitation procedures were carried out by the crew throughout the journey to hospital, but despite their best efforts, he could not be saved.”

The second incident involved a man thought to be in his 70s and also from south Shropshire. He died after being hit by a Nissan Micra on the A49 Ludlow to Bromfield road at about 6.50pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old boy was knocked off his bike in a hit-and-run incident in Telford today.

A blue Vauxhall Vectra was seen to collide with the boy in Dale Acre Way, Hollinswood, at about 8am.

The boy was not seriously injured. The driver of the Vectra did not stop and continued on through Hollinswood.
