Cars targeted with fireworks
Wednesday 31st October 2007, 11:43AM GMT.
Youths launched fireworks at homes and cars and set fire to wheelie bins in a Shrewsbury street.
Police were called to Moston Road, Harlescott, last night after worried members of the public reported the trouble.
The culprits have been warned they face prosecution if they are caught committing any further offences.
Police spokesman Richard Ewels said: “We had two or three residents ring us about unruly youths and their anti-social behaviour.
“A number of fireworks were set off and aimed at property and cars. Residents were concerned and the police were called, but the youths had dispersed by the time officers arrived.”
He said £50 of criminal damage had been caused at a home on Moston Road bet-ween 10.30am and 9.15pm yesterday when a brick was thrown through a window.
Mr Ewels said “robust action” would be taken agai-nst anyone who was apprehended or found to have committed the offences.
One fire crew from Shrewsbury was called to Moston Road at 6.20pm to put out a wheelie bin fire, before returning at 6.55pm when two more bins had been set alight.
Anyone with information on last night’s incidents, or anyone who spots trouble, is asked to call Shrewsbury police on 08457 444888 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
Mr Ewels also called for parents to speak to their children and to make sure they knew where they were and who with to stop them from causing trouble.

I’ll believe it when I see it.
It’s always the same gangs and nothing is ever done, perhaps if the police came onto the estate it might help prevent trouble, idle threats will not.

I’m surprised that the headlines don’t read “hoodies throw fireworks”
is the problem not down to the shops that sell these fireworks in the first place?

Every area has crime rates, I doubt very much whether Telford is the bronx of the UK – there are far worse areas to live……..youths, gangs, people in general, no matter where they live will get hold of fireworks and cause damage. Telford and Shrewsbury are not the only places in the UK where this will have happened or will happen at some point soon. Lets keep it in perspective eh?

Why dont the police charge the culprits in the first place? How is this going to deter their mates or think about doing the same again next year? Where were the so called Community Police? Its a no brainer that kids would do these sort of things on Halloween night. I used to go trick or treating but I was scared of the police and knew the consequences if I got caught.

Exactly who are they going to be caught by? The only remotely looking law enforcement type people we see about who aren’t driving around in cars are PCSO’s. I wonder how long it will be before they’re driving around too.
