Rhydian’s on song yet again
Monday 29th October 2007, 11:48AM GMT.
Mid Wales singer Rhydian Roberts wowed the judges for the second week running on The X Factor.
The classical baritone singer, from Trallong, near Brecon, Powys, performed a special solo arrangement of The Phantom of the Opera for the latest show in the series, which sees singers battling to win a record contract.
Dannii Minogue, Rhydian’s mentor in the contest, said the song had been adapted for him by its writer, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, after the theatre impresario had seen the 24-year-old’s performance of Meat Loaf’s I Would Do Anything For Love (but I won’t do that) the previous week.
And afterwards, Louis Walsh, one of the show’s four judges, told Rhydian: “There are one or two people in this competition who are head and shoulders above the others – and you are one of them. You have star quality.”
Fellow judge Simon Cowell said: “By choosing that song, with that performance, you proved, not only are you good, you are potentially world class.”

As a music mogul myself, in a previous incarnation, I found myself echoing Cowell’s view that Rhydian’s performance was First Class.

Rhydian is world class! All other contestants pale into insignificance.I don’t rate Hope. Do we need another girl band? I’m not from the UK and this is one of my first experiences of watching British TV but from now on I’ll be rooted to the TV every Saturday night and rooting for Rhydian!
