Eisteddford under way

Saturday 20th October 2007, 11:29AM BST.

Llanfyllin was a town of colour and ceremony today as the Powys Eisteddfod got under way.

The Welsh cultural festival takes place in a different venue each year and the people of Llanfyllin have been working for more than 12 months planning the event.

More than 50 volunteers have been involved and about £20,000 has been raised in the area to cover the cost of staging the event.

A host of entertainment will take place over the two days following the opening procession through the town this morning and the bardic ceremony at the Gorsedd stones in the grounds of Llanfyllin High School.
