Tugford (2)

Thursday 11th October 2007, 2:33PM BST.

tugford.jpgDistance: Three-and-a-half miles.
Terrain: Easy walking on lanes, tracks and fieldpaths.

1. Start by the telephone box in Tugford, to the east of Munslow. From the telephone box, walk out of the village towards Bouldon for about three quarters of a mile, until reaching a stile on the left.

2. Cross over and walk up the right-hand oundary to a gate leading into a wood. Pass through this and walk through the wood to a track; turn left along this and bear right at the fork before walking up round the edge of the wood to a gate at the top.

3. Continue along the right-hand boundary of the next field, turn right at the end and left again after about 50 yards. Continue ahead to a gate leading into a field containing the eleventh-century Heath Chapel.

4. Walk out on to a lane and turn left for about half a mile to a stone track on the left just after a right-hand bend.

5. Turn left up this track with Brown Clee on the right and pass through a metal gate. Then continue ahead, where the track bears right, on to a path between hedges.

6. On entering a field, keep to the right-hand boundary, pass through a gate and continue down the left-hand boundary to join a short, green lane.

7. At its junction with a farm track, bear left and continue to a gate in front of Lower Norncott. Pass through to a gate in the hedge, turn left and walk to the right of farm buildings; cross the drive to a double stile, and walk down the left-hand boundary of two fields to a stile in the corner by a holly tree.

8. In the next field walk half-right down to the brook on the right, and eventually turn right over a footbridge and through a gate out on to a lane. Turn left here to return to the start.
