Woman to check on leader
Tuesday 9th October 2007, 5:05AM BST.
A Telford grandmother today accepted an invitation to spend two days with borough council leader Andrew Eade to find out whether he is giving the public value for money.
Yvonne Oliver, 66, of Woodside Road, Ketley, said she was sure that councillors generally did a good job.
“But there is usually resentment every year about rises in council tax,” she told the annual meeting of Telford Senior Citizens’ Forum.
Mrs Oliver suggested Telford & Wrekin Council’s own magazine Insight, delivered free to homes and businesses across the borough, ought to carry an article spelling out what a a councillor does.
“It will increase people’s respect no end for councillors,” she said.
Councillor Eade said he hoped to take up that idea and added: “I invite you to come round with me for a couple of days to see what I do.”
Mrs Oliver replied: “I think I will take you up on that.”
The pair agreed to fix up a date after the meeting.

Let’s hope she finds he has better things to do than worry about which flag is flying above his office.

At least Andrew Eade does something. Unlike his Labour predecessors who were far too keen on posing and preening!
