For a man with no immune system, I’m doing alright.
- Bucket list Ben
Knighton
Friday 5th October 2007, 3:30PM BST.
Distance: Three-and-a-half miles
Terrain: Easy walking on paths and tracks except for sharp ascent near star.
1. Starting at the Offa’s Dyke Information Centre in West Street in Knighton, walk down the side of the information centre and follow the Offa’s Dyke Path signposts across the grassy area and down the steps to a path running alongside the River Teme.
2. Turn left along this and follow the riverside to the footbridge. Cross over and continue over the railway line to a gate leading out on to a lane. Cross over and continue to follow Offa’s Dyke Path as it climbs steeply up Panpunton Hill with Kinsey Wood on the right.
3. Head for a stile near the top which you will be climbing on your descent, but having got this far a little more effort will take you to a viewpoint with a seat looking up the valley towards Knucklas.
4. Turn left in front of the stile and continue alongside a small wood and through a gate until reaching the seat.
Retrace your steps to the stile, cross over and walk half-right across the field to the boundary of Kinsey Wood.
5. Stay in the field and pass through a gate in the bottom right-hand corner on to a wide unsurfaced track which continues downhill with good views ahead. Near the bottom it bears right and then left by a “no tipping” sign. At this point bear right on to a wide track running through the wood parallel to the road, which it eventually reaches opposite the station.
6. Turn right, cross the railway bridge and take the first road on the right which leads up to the church. Turn right at the junction and follow this lane down past the cemetery until it ends at the entrance to the park.
7. Continue ahead as far as steps on the left, turn left, following the outward route back to the start.
