Polly the Purple Polo

polly-the-purple-polo-ss.jpgI have had Polly for about 3 years now. She is a purple 1997 VW Polo 1.4 CL. Polly has only had one previous lady owner so she was in excellent working order when I bought her from my local auction, writes Claire from Telford.

All my friends love a ride in Polly - she has an excellent sound system added by myself, and I have just purchased some little alloy wheels for her handling.

Polly also has a convertible roof! I have a special electric super button near the driver’s side which opens the roof. It’s fantastic fun, especially for watching the stars late at night while listening to the cool relaxing sounds of the recently-installed CD player!

She’s used on a daily basis for short journeys to and from work, and is cheap to run – I spend around £10 a week on petrol.

Occasionally she’s taken off road and we have a bit of fun in the mud, usually getting stuck, but you’ll usually find me and my dog Honey riding around the countryside looking for nice walks (Honey’s often recognised as my co-pilot!)

She’s never had any serious problems or breakdowns so far, but one thing to bear in mind with the Polo’s is the central locking.

This has a tendency to break now and again - apparently this is a common Polo problem - but can be easily replaced with alternative locks.

Also, I’ve found the exhaust falls off occasionally, but I just carry on driving and hope it will hang on until I get home!

Polly enjoys warm weather though, and performs best in the spring/summer months. I notice she can become a little grumpy in the colder months – she can take around 15–20 minutes to warm up in the winter.

However, VW Polo’s are an excellent buy for the young or inexperienced driver, even for those after a run-around.

I’ve had three years of fun with Polly and everyone comments on her pretty colour and groovy roof.

So that’s Polly, the Celeb Polo!

The iPod competition is now over, but we’d still love to hear about your car - Click here to send us your review, a picture of the car, your name and where you’re from.
