Landlord arrested in pub raid

A Shropshire pub landlord was arrested after illegal drugs were discovered in a police raid on his pub.
Officers raided The Red Lion, in Park Street, Madeley, Telford, after residents feared the pub was being used by drug users and underage drinkers.
James Lonsdale, the 64-year-old landlord, was arrested.
Police said a bag of amphetamine tablets was found in a money bag hidden in a drawer when officers scoured the pub.
Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: “The warrant was executed following complaints and concerns raised by the local community about underage drinking and drug taking they believed was taking place on the premises.
“Having entered the property a search was carried out and a quantity of amphetamines were found in a moneybag hidden in a drawer.
“As a result of this discovery a 64-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug.”
Mr Ammonds said the man was given a caution.
The pub is now listed as available on website of its owners Marston’s Pub Company, where interested parties would need to invest a minimum of £10,000 – £15,000.
It states: “A local person to the area will find the Red Lion of interest. Obviously, the new tenant will possess enthusiasm and ideas to realise the pub’s full potential.”
Nobody from Marston’s was available for comment.
