moustache-challenge.jpgMembers of the Rotary Club of Oswestry Borderland have ditched their razors to grow moustaches in aid of charity.

Throughout the month of September, 14 members of the club have been raising cash for the Everyman “Tacheback” campaign.

Everyman, a subsidiary of Cancer Research UK, is focusing on research into the seldom talked about male cancers.

Twelve of the members of have been growing moustaches from scratch, but two members, Martin Davies and Brian Bristoll, plan to have well-established beards and moustaches shaved off.

Mr Bristoll, who has cultivated his facial hair for 40 years, is planning to have not only his beard and moustache shaved, but also his hair, in support of the research. The shave will take place at the Walford and North Shropshire College by hair and beauty students tomorrow.

Mr Bristoll said: “A lot of people are going to be troubled by prostate cancer as they get older.

“It is the number one cancer for men.

“I knew people would sponsor me if I did this, it’s going to raise a lot of money.”

The idea for the fundraising scheme came from the borderland club president David North, who hopes that sponsorship will raise more than £2,000.

Paul Crosby, for the club said: “I think the £2,000 will certainly be achieved, but I don’t know yet how much we will exceed it by.”
