Men hurt in party ‘riot’

Saturday 22nd September 2007, 11:48AM BST.

Residents in Telford were left terrified by a gang of up to 50 youths who went on a “riot” after a house party spiralled out onto the street. Two people suffered injuries in the fracas.Police responded to several calls yesterday from people living in the Furnace Lane and Dickens Road area of Trench.

Just before 9pm one man was assaulted and is believed to have suffered facial injuries. A second man was taken to hospital later with suspected broken ribs.

Inspector Richard Langton of Telford police said officers were stepping up patrols in the area in a bid to reassure residents.

He said there had been several witnesses to yesterday evening’s incidents and he was anticipating a number of arrests to be made for public disorder.

He said what he believed caused it was a resident in Furnace Lane hosting a house party.

“It’s quite possible there were 40 to 50 people there.

“There was an incident at 8.55pm when some people from an adjacent property went to where the party was being held. There was a discussion with regards to the conduct. That became an angry confrontation. A male was assaulted.”

Mr Langton confirmed a second man was taken to hospital later in the evening with rib injuries.

Earlier in the evening, community support officers had seized a quantity of alcohol from youths in the area.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described the incident as a “riot”.

She said cars had been damaged and residents had swept up large amounts of broken glass from the street.

“I know a lot of the neighbours were petrified,” she said.

Grow up! Calling them men is far from correct, anyone that cannot handle drink , and those who dabble with drugs should not use unless they can control themselves.
What a perfect example of what idiots are having and raising families these days, idiots raise idiots, result? A very stupid nation

If all the neighbours were petrified why didn’t they all go together? One person on their own going to investifgate isnt much good, but if all neighbours going together, and with cameras taking photos would surely have had a different outcome!

Or doesn’t anybody in that street know each other and have each others telephone numbers?

Or were they all waiting ‘for something to be done about it’?

Marco, get real, why would you confront a group of chavs? nowerdays youre more likely to end up getting stabbed or glassed, thats why people wont do anything. Hows about you nominate yourself for chav potrol, and on you own “with your camera” you go around sorting them out eh!?

i went to the party and the 2 men that were injured were the ones that entered the house with baseball bats! 1 girl was hit in the face which sparked the fight. Many of us were not drunk and was able to calm it down the police were a waste of time and did not help the situation! And there was no 11 year old there the youngest was 16!

There are two sides to every story and i happen to know the people who were having the party.

They were trying to control the situation because people were just arriving that they didnt know, it was actualy the neighbours that broke in and started the fight.

Early in the night a young lad was attacked with a golf club by the neighbours and all he was doing was walking past the house. I dont see that in the paper.

I appreciate the party did get out of control but theres more then one party to blame.

Marco, maybe the neighbours have good reason not to go out and tackle this type of thing, I mean wasnt it a month or so ago a man went to ask some youths to stop messing with his car and lost his life…….

marco it was a neighbour who went to ask that the party goers calmdown and stop trowing cans into his garden what caused this riot in the first place …..with the increase in knife and gun crimes in the uk most would think twice about tackling a 50 strong mob of teenagers enless they had on a red cape with an `s` on it wouldnt they ??????

to sue the young lad who was hit with a golf club was he not hit because he had stolen the other mans motorcycle and has he not just been on an asbo and is the house in question here not allways a melting pot for trouble ???? the police did a great job quickly dealing with around 50 idiots throwing bottles and glasses did the shop not shut early because of the amount of underage youngsters trying to puchace booze ??? maybe people would think of the neighbours when hosting such big parties and have them in a hall or function room away from peoples homes ??? and finaly were the parents on holliday when this teenage party was under way ? i think the arnswer is yes they were and i hope they feel let down by there chilldren and will do something to stop this happening again
