H2 woe as contractors cut pipe
Friday 21st September 2007, 12:30PM BST.
A spectacular fountain of water was thrown 40ft in the air after contractors accidentally cut through a pipe in Shrewsbury.
The drama unfolded yesterday afternoon after workers hit the pipe at a site in Ellesmere Road.
Residents watched in amazement as the plume of water shot up into the sky flooding the site.
Dave Green, 64, of Telford Estate, Monkmoor, said: “The water was all over the roof of the old railway club. I would say it was reaching about 40ft in the air.”
Severn Trent Water said inspectors would visit the site.
Staff in the Darwin and Pride Hill shopping centres were told to not to drink their water. Supplies were back on this morning.
