Recipe for show success
Saturday 15th September 2007, 11:45AM BST.
Thousands of people were expected to flock to Weston Park this weekend to visit the 25th Midland Game Fair.
The event at the stately home on the Shropshire border will feature clay shooting, gundog events and falconry, along with a food festival, a gunmaker’s display and an Airgun Expo.
A spokesman for the event said: “The Midland Game Fair is a truly distinctive event.
“The atmosphere, the people, the setting, the competitions, the arenas – all these combine to make this show the most unforgettable in the game fair calendar.
“The Midland is home to more championship finals from across the spectrum of country sports than any other.”
Meanwhile a group of 300 farmers from Cumbria cancelled their trip to the event claiming organisers’ have failed to impose bio-security measures in the wake of the latest foot and mouth crisis.
But Ian Harford, who runs the event through Countryman Fairs, said Defra had given him no guidance and stressed there was no need for bio-security.
