A charity fundraiser from Shropshire remains in a critical condition in hospital more than two weeks after he was injured in an accident on a busy road near the county border.

Robert Currie, from Snailbeach, near Minsterley, was critically injured in a two-car collision on the A41 Hampton, Malpas, Cheshire, on August 27.

The 57-year-old is a member of Holy Trinity Church, Minsterley, and St Luke’s Church in Snailbeach, and villagers have already held a vigil for him, lighting candles and remembering him in their prayers.

The Reverend Alan Toop said he had visited the Inland Revenue worker in hospital and said the community was continuing to pray for his recovery.

He said: “There are some good signs, but very small and he is still, technically, critical. There are different groups around the county praying for Robert and he is part of a huge network.”

Mr Toop said Mr Currie had suffered extensive injuries to the right side of his body during the accident which happened when a red Vauxhall Astra he was driving was in a collision with another red Astra driven by a 21-year-old female from Malpas.

Two occupants of the other car were originally in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Mr Currie is well known in the community for playing an active role in the Abbey Foregate Church Drama Group.
