Festival of beer will go ahead

Friday 7th September 2007, 5:44AM BST.

dark-beer.jpgOrganisers of Bridgnorth’s annual beer festival have insisted it would go ahead next week despite the recent damage to the Severn Valley Railway.

The festival is held in a marquee next to the Railwayman’s Arms at the Bridgnorth station of the SVR.

But despite the line being damaged meaning trains cannot run from Bridgnorth to Highley, the four-day event will still take place from September 13 to 16.

A spokesman for organisers The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) said: “Despite the appalling damage and ensuing closure problems caused by the recent storms to the Severn Valley Railway, the Bridgnorth Camra Beer Festival will still go ahead.

“So come along and enjoy the atmosphere.”

CAMRA has renamed one of the beers at the event SVR Summer Ale to help with the recovery effort, with 10p from each pint going to the Flood Damage Appeal Fund.
