Fall farmer back home
Thursday 6th September 2007, 12:12PM BST.
A Shropshire farmer airlifted to hospital after being knocked unconscious when he fell 15ft from machinery has returned home today.
Martin Williams, who is in his 50s, was airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital yesterday.
He was working in a field with his son Graham, 28, at Broadstone Farm in Craven Arms when the accident happened.
He had climbed on to a piece of machinery to carry out maintenance work but slipped, cut his chin open and was knocked unconscious.
His brother Stephen Williams, of Aston Munslow, said: “The machinery gave him an uppercut when he fell, but he was conscious by the time he was taken to the hospital’s surgical assessment unit.”
Graham Williams said his father was back at home now and quite well. “It was just a case of taking the time to check him over and make sure he was okay,” he said.
“He won’t be back at work until next week and he is resting now.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Daphne Lewis said: “He was not seriously injured and had a lucky escape.”
The emergency service was called just before 10.30am yesterday. On arrival land ambulance crew paramedics Barry Simpson and Jo Struggles were assisted overland in a farm vehicle.
Mr Simpson said: “We were taken over the fields in a farm vehicle, where we were able to commence treatment. The man was suffering from concussion and chin injuries.”
