Councillors to grill 999 chiefs

Wednesday 5th September 2007, 11:20AM BST.

Ambulance service managers face a grilling tonight from Telford & Wrekin councillors over controversial plans to scrap their Shropshire control room.

West Midlands Ambulance Service is consulting on plans to close the Shrewsbury call centre, in favour of a large regional control in Brierley Hill.

Bosses last week faced opposition from the public at packed public meetings in Shrewsbury and Telford.

Tonight Anthony Marsh, trust chief executive, and Sir Graham Meldrum, trust chairman, will have to defend the plans before Telford & Wrekin Council’s health and care scrutiny commission.

Councillor Derek White, panel chairman, said: “It is an opportunity for us to ask what it will mean for us.”
