MP vows to keep fight up

Monday 27th August 2007, 11:17AM BST.

pacongestion.jpgShrewsbury and Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski today vowed to keep on fighting against a proposed congestion charge for Shrewsbury town centre. The Conservative MP claims many people mistakenly believe the controversial plans have been cancelled rather than put on hold.

He has formed an umbrella group to continue the fight against charges and at a meeting tomorrow, says he will take the next step in bringing together the community in opposing the town centre toll.

The meeting will take place at 4pm at Mr Kawczynski’s constituency office in Harlescott Lane.

Last month Mr Kawczynski gathered representatives from various local organisations and protest groups opposed to congestion charging in Shrewsbury town centre.

The group, with some new members, will now move their campaign forward.

Congestion charging and road tolls are just another way for the rich and the influential to keep the poor man down and keep the roads free from traffic for the afore mentioned to travel on in peace and without disruption. The only people who suffer in this like road tax increases and petrol price increases is us the working class and not the rich who probably dont even know how much anything costs anyway. Us the people need to wake up and start smelling the roses as we are moving head first into a totalitarion state where we are controlled and spied upon with our every move by a nanny state.

Congestion Charging in a small rural town like Shrewsbury is quite simply a daft idea.

The real reason Shrewsbury council want a congestion charge is to get their hands on the government bribe called TIF funding.

This fund is a pool of taxpayers money which can be allocated to local authorities who sign up to a congestion charge. The government want 10 local authorities to introduce a road charging system to test their ultimate aim of national road pricing. So far, only Manchester has applied for funding and if they are succesful, they will saddle their electorate with a £1.8 Billion loan which will cost as much in interest as they propose to receive from any congestion charge. So how this can benifit the local community is baffling.

We need volunteers and help to prevent Shrewsbury falling for the governments bribe. If you can help, please visit http://www.traveltax.org.uk and contact me. Thank you.
