Mobiles given to abuse victims
Friday 24th August 2007, 5:28AM BST.
Victims of domestic violence in Mid Wales are being given a potential life-line by a national company.
Virgin Mobile has given 50 mobile phones to Dyfed-Powys Police.
Now a decision has been made to make them available to victims of domestic abuse in the force area, to ensure potential victims have access to the emergency services when they are under threat.
The phones are being distributed across Powys and the rest of the force area, although a number will also be available for the newly opened sexual assault referral centre in Carmarthen.
Acting Detective Inspector Shirley Davies said today: “This simple initiative gives the police another method to provide reassurance of personal safety.”
Lisa Cogdell-Brown, Virgin Mobile community officer, said: “Virgin Mobile is pleased to be able to offer Dyfed Powys Police free mobile phones to support their work.”
