Baby a first for county

Monday 13th August 2007, 11:13AM BST.

A 19-year-old Shropshire woman has become one of the first kidney dialysis patients in the country to give birth.

Lucy Sambrook of Harlescott, Shrewsbury, said today that both she and baby Victoria are doing well.

But Lucy will need to continue receiving dialysis three times a week at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

She has a rare genetic disease, Allports Syndrome, which affects the kidney.

Victoria was born several weeks prematurely on July 20. Her birth was induced and Lucy’s labour lasted just 14 minutes.
