Appeal over euros clue in raid
Friday 10th August 2007, 10:29AM BST.
Police investigating a robbery at a Bridgnorth post office in which a staff member was threatened with a gun today revealed that euros were stolen in the raid.
Detective Constable Alex Sullivan, who is investigating the incident on July 13, said police were keen to hear from anyone who may have been offered any euros, possibly in exchange for UK currency.
Two hooded gunmen held up the shopkeeper at the St John’s Street branch at about 4.20pm and demanded money.
The robbers took an amount of cash before fleeing into a housing estate at the back of the Post Office, and were last seen in nearby Severn Street shortly after the incident.
Detective Sullivan said: “Enquiries have revealed that a quantity of euros was stolen in the robbery, and we are keen to hear from anyone who might have been offered them, perhaps in exchange for pounds sterling.
“We have received a number of calls from members of the public in response to media appeals, but we still need more witnesses.
“Two men were seen hanging around the car park in Severn Street for up to an hour before the robbery, and I would ask people to think back and call us with anything they can remember from that day.”
The offenders are both tall, about 6ft or 6ft 1in, and were wearing dark blue jackets and trousers. Orange or red balaclavas were worn over their heads, which may have been some form of bags with eye holes cut in.
Detective Sullivan urged anyone who saw the men or any suspicious vehicle which may be connected in the area at the time to get in touch on 08457 444888.

Hmmm, brilliant detective work, they’ve established what was stolen!! Now if only a few of us decent citizens could find the culprits and furnish our impressive police force with names and addresses, then they could lock them up and pat themselves on the back for another crime successfully solved.
I wonder if our local council could consider a private police force on the same basis as the highly successful traffic warden scheme? They could be called ‘NickRite’, and the council could employ NickRite attendants who could actually patrol our streets looking out for crime and apprehending villains when they see it happening. They could issue on the spot fines for littering, offensive language, antisocial behaviour. The fines would pay their wages and allow the council to employ more of them. Just think, our streets would be pleasant and safe places to walk once more. Wouldnt that be nice?
