Memory call for elderly
Tuesday 7th August 2007, 5:59AM BST.
People of Oswestry are being encouraged to dig out memorabilia to stimulate the lives of the elderly.
Those with Oswestry memorabilia linked to old Oswestry camp, the old market hall, dance halls, the hospital and railway, are urged to take it along to a Memory Open Morning.
Organisers of the event, at Oswestry’s Guildhall, Bailey Head, on August 14, hope to generate a collection of mat-erials to be used in Shropshire Reminiscence Memory Boxes for Oswestry borough The boxes are used as a spr-ingboard for work carried out in residential homes.
The boxes will contain small, not dangerous and usually not precious items, designed to stimulate a walk down memory lane.
Corrie Davies, Oswestry Borough Council community development officer, said: “Reminiscence matters because it gives meaning and value to older people’s past and present lives.”
Items can be taken along on the morning or posted to Corrie Davies, Economic Development and Partnerships Unit, Oswestry Borough Council, 15 English Walls, Oswestry, SY11 2PA.”
The open morning will be held from 10am-1pm.
