Mick happy with Freddy’s fitness
Thursday 2nd August 2007, 5:43PM BST.
Mick McCarthy has declared Molineux new boy Freddy Eastwood “fit and ready” to start the season.
The £1.5m man has played twice in two days against Northampton and Hereford as he continues to build match sharpness ahead of the big kick off in nine days time.
A back injury suffered near the end of his time at Southend meant he did virtually no training over the summer months – and left him playing catch up with the rest of the squad when he joined last month.
But after seeing him step up in form and fitness over the last fortnight McCarthy believes Eastwood is now ready for action.
“I certainly wouldn’t have a problem with putting him in when the season starts. He needs that bit of fitness work but he’s got a few minutes under his belt now.
“It was nice for Freddy to get a goal against Northampton – I thought he worked hard. He looked better and a bit sharper in that game. He was running for everything and I like his attitude.”
