Firework finale at summer concert
Saturday 28th July 2007, 10:38AM BST.
A firework company involved in the spectacular Millennium display over the River Thames is due to provide an awesome finale to the Summer Proms concert at Weston Park tonight.
Thousands of fireworks are set to be fired off, choreographed to music including Land of Hope and Glory and Pomp and Circumstance.
The man behind the displays is John Rowland, managing director of Vulcan Fireworks.
He has been an avid fireworks fan all of his life and started working in the industry 25 years ago.
The audiences will see in the region of 2,000 individual projectiles fired into the sky containing about one tonne of explosive. Some of these shells measure up to 400mm and a grown man could climb inside the mortars they are fired from.
Mr Rowland said: “When the orchestra move into a quiet section, the fireworks are able to echo this and as they come to a rousing climax.”
