Cannabis plants seized

Friday 27th July 2007, 10:41AM BST.

Detective constable Ian Davies with a small selection of the seized cannabisPolice in Shropshire have seized more than 80 cannabis plants during a drugs raid. Officers also seized specialist cultivation equipment from a property in the Ludlow area.

A man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and the cultivation of cannabis following the raid on Wednesday. He was interviewed and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Sergeant Ed Hancox, of Ludlow police, said drug-related crime was taken very seriously by West Mercia Constabulary and he urged anyone with information about suspected drugs activity to contact police with as much detail as they could.

He said drug crime was not a major problem in the county but officers were still very proactive in seeking out drug dealers.

Sgt Hancox added: “It is a fact that levels of drug-related crime in Shropshire are low and it remains one of the safest places to live and work.

“But it can still have an impact on people’s quality of life and the police are committed to working with the community and other agencies to tackle such issues.”

He said that any information provided by members of the public was essential to help police tackle drug crime.

All calls were treated in the strictest confidence, he added.

“Where specific and detailed intelligence is received, it will be acted on as appropriate,” Sgt Hancox said.

“If anyone has concerns or information about suspected drug-related activity in their area, I would urge them to please contact the police drug liaison officer on 08457 444888.

“Detailed information allows us to gather an accurate intelligence picture.

“There are processes in place that enable us to receive and use information without revealing our sources.”

Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, if people do not wish to leave their name.

After the recent floods in Ludlow, I’d have thought residents have more important things to do than smoke this filth.
