Knight did not go as planned

Thursday 26th July 2007, 10:49AM BST.

Beverley Knight on stage. Picture: Alan Taylor, of Planet Vision Photography.I would like to say how disappointed my family and I were when we went to see Beverley Knight supported by Lemar at the Quarry in Shrewsbury.

We bought the tickets on the understanding that Beverley Knight was headlining.

How surprised we were when not only were there three bands performing but Beverley Knight was not the headline act.

Lemar may be the prince of British soul, but Beverley Knight is at least on a par with any soul singer presently performing and would not be found wanting when ranked alongside almost any great singer from the past.

If we had realised that Beverly Knight would only perform a set of about half-an-hour we would have demanded our money back before the concert took place.

I hope in future that the artist who we bought the tickets to see is the headline act and not someone who was purported to be the support act.

I was there too and must say how mediocre I thought the headliner Lemar was, another here today gone tomorrow talent contest winner believing his own hype. Not only was he 45 minutes late {out of arrogant choice apparently – I have a spy backstage!} but spent most of his act talking. Beverley Knight quite obviously should have headlined so how did the promotors get away with this? Any answers from the organisers?
Oh! ps. The UK doesn’t do Princes and Princesses of Soul, the best we’ve ever managed is imitate though BK was good and the free icecream and firework show were nice!!

I would never pay to see a live singing act – always too much money for mediocrity in many respects.

I agree with merc; both Beverley Knight AND Lemar were late onstage.
However, the high spirits of the crowd (and the realisation that out of three concerts that weekend in The Quarry, WE had the only dry evening), kept everyone in good humour. This is why I would always support live music.
