Builder takes on home repairs

jewson_logo.gifOne of the UK’s biggest building companies has signed a three-year contract to improve 2,400 homes in the Bridgnorth district.

Jewson has secured the deal with Bridgnorth District Council to bring its social housing stock up to the Government’s “Decent Homes Standard”, saving the council thousands of pounds in the process.

Through its branch in Bridgnorth, the builders’ merchant will exclusively supply all materials needed for maintenance and regeneration work over the next three years.

The company will ensure the properties are fit-to-let by providing new kitchens, bathrooms and central heating systems if required.

Jewson will also equip all 10 of the council’s maintenance vans with the essential materials needed to carry out work on the properties, as well as providing a dedicated contract manager throughout the project.

Peter Hughes, head of housing and property management at the council, said using only one supplier for materials would save the council a “significant” amount.

He said: “Jewson’s experience of supporting social housing schemes in the provision of repairs and maintenance services to their tenants has provided us with the confidence to enter into this exciting and innovative single-supplier partnership.”

Because we all know its much cheaper to go to a builders merchant to get all your requirements, rather than going to B&Q. Its a shame though that by using only one supplier, rather than getting others to quote, these ‘significant’ savings will not actually be quantifiable. Still, shopping around would require effort, far easier to hang the expense and give one lucky company the jewson lot !
