Cost of flooding mounts
Tuesday 17th July 2007, 11:40AM BST.
Shropshire continued to count the cost of the big summer wash-out today as worse weather was forecast.Hailstones, thunderstorms and an outside chance of the odd tornado have been predicted over the next couple of days.
The unsettled weather is expected to continue until at least tomorrow, with the potential of even heavier rain on Friday, experts said.
The repair bill of last month’s floods in Shropshire is mounting, with at least £30,000 needed to restore footpaths in Severn Valley Country Park, near Bridgnorth.
South Shropshire and Bridgnorth district councils are starting to allocate the £50,000 they both received to help flood victims. But people in Bridgnorth may lose out after officials said up to 200 people may apply for cash, compared to about 80 in south Shropshire.
Meanwhile, the Nantwich and Cheshire Show on July 24, has been cancelled after torrential rain. The International Cheese Show will run at Dorfold Hall Park. Shrewsbury’s Race For Life will take place on September 23.
