Distance: Three-and-a-half miles.

cheswardine.jpg1. Start at St Swithun’s church at the top of High Street. From the bottom of the church steps, turn left along lane to Chipnall and walk out of village down to a road junction opposite the entrance to Cheswardine Hall.

2. Cross to winding track leading to cricket club and walk down left side of pitch to footpath sign.

3. Bear half-right across field to a stile then cut across the lef corner of next field to the next stile. Cross this and head across the next field to another stile to the right of a small wood.

4. Go over this and down left-hand side of field alongside the wood to a further stile. Cross this and continue ahead over several more stiles to the road.

5. To your right is Bishop’s Wood, with Burnt Wood directly ahead. Turn right along road as far as footpath sign on right, and follow path alongside a cottage and into field with another small wood on the right.

6. Continue ahead over two stiles to emerge on a farm drive. Cross over to a stile and enter a field with a hedge on the left. Continue along left boundary and then ahead along a green lane to emerge on to a road.

7. Turn right, and just past second road junction, look out for a stile in the hedge on the left.
Cross this and head across three fields, crossing stiles and passing through a kissing gate, to the road.

8. Then cross last stile and turn left back to the start.
