Terror suspect photo released
Wednesday 4th July 2007, 6:58PM BST.
One of the main suspects in the London and Glasgow bomb plots enjoys the sunshine in Shrewsbury Square in this picture released today.
Marwa Dana Asha, the wife of Shropshire trained terror suspect Dr Mohammed Asha, is seen in The Square near the Old Market Hall during the couple’s year spent in Shrewsbury.
The laboratory technician, 27, was pictured by her husband with the couple’s British born 18-month-old son Anas.
It was taken during their stay in the county while neurosurgeon Dr Asha, 26, worked as a junior doctor at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Both were today still being held by police in connection with last week’s failed car bombs after their dramatic arrest on the M6 on Saturday night.
The family photo is the first glimpse into their life in Shropshire, where Dr Asha worked until last August.
It emerged today that several of the people suspected of being members of an NHS terror cell were known to the British security services.
Known links between some of the suspects and previous counter-terrorist investigations have helped speed up the police enquiry.
The news came as security experts considered relaxing the apparent terrorist threat to the UK from its highest level.
One phase of the fast-moving inquiry may be drawing to a close after a string of arrests in the UK and Australia, police sources said.
Six people will continue to be questioned today at London’s high security Paddington Green police station including Dr Asha and his wife.
A seventh man remains critically ill with severe burns in a Glasgow hospital and an eighth, Dr Mohammed Haneef, 27, is being questioned in Brisbane, Australia.
Whitehall sources said that the Security Service had established ‘linkages’ with a number of the individuals although it was not clear how much was known about them.
“As a result of these linkages we have been able to assist the police in their investigations and to help speed up some of the investigations,” said a source.
