Back to the 40s on railway
Monday 2nd July 2007, 10:11AM BST.
Shropshire Star reader Bob Mantom has sent us a selection of photos from the 1940s weekend at Seven Valley Railway.
We’d love to see your photos from any weekend events.
Send them to internet@shropshirestar.co.uk, including your name, address and photo description and we’ll publish the best.
Bob took his pictures at Kidderminster and Bewdley after the line to Bridgnorth was closed by flood damage.
He says: “It was like travelling back in time. I felt out of place in my jeans and T-shirt and digital SLR – should have taken my Rolleicord from 1939!
“I noticed that collection bottle for cash for the flood damage repairs was also full of water.
“There were families as well as couples dressed up in period outfits, outfits from military to glamour and farmers to business men. I liked the guy dressed as a 40s press photographer . . . not me!
“Also parked outside was the lorry from Dads’ Army and a bus off Heartbeat. There was a real war veteran who had seen action in several ‘theatres’ looking at his medals.”
