Newcastle-on-Clun
Friday 22nd June 2007, 9:41AM BST.
1. Start at Newcastle church at the north-eastern end of the village. Walk downhill from the church into the centre of this attractive village, passing the old school on the right and its modem replacement on the left.
2. Turn right at the crossroads and after passing the last house on the right turn right continue up a wide track which then bends round to the left.
3. Just after this take the right fork uphill through the woods before reaching a gate at the top which leads out into open fields.
4. The views to your left will compensate for the climb which continues past old barns to a stile leading into a grassy track along the side of a wood.
5. At the end of the track walk up the right hand side of the field to a stile leading out on to a lane.
6. Turn right along this to a T-junction, noting an impressive section of Offa’s Dyke on the hillside ahead, turn right down the hill and follow the meandering lane to another junction.
7. Turn right here and continue along the lane to the church.
