Driver seriously injured in crash
Friday 22nd June 2007, 10:31AM BST.
A driver suffered serious injuries when a car rolled on to its roof just outside Whitchurch in the early hours of this morning.
The accident involving one car happened just over the Cheshire border on the A49 near Hinton Hall at about 3.30am.
Firefighters from Whitchurch were called to assist paramedics at the scene and the road was closed for about three hours.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police today described the driver’s injuries as serious, but not life-threatening.
Two passengers were described as “walking wounded” and all three were given first aid by firefighters before ambulance crews arrived.
Whitchurch firefighters were back in action at 5.30am today when they attended an incident in which another car ended up on its roof on the A41 Whitchurch bypass.
A man and woman were able to climb free of the badly damaged car and both were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.
Whitchurch sub officer Mike Beach, who attended both accidents, was surprised to see people walking away from the wreckages this morning.
He said: “In both cases this morning they were very, very lucky.
“Both cars were very badly damaged.
“We have had vehicles with a lot less serious damage than this morning where there have been a lot more serious injuries.”
