Edgmond

Wednesday 20th June 2007, 9:38AM BST.

Distance: Three miles.

edgmond.jpg1. Start at the north end of Edgmond where Chetwynd Road crosses the B5062 — there is a small parking area to the north of the latter.

2. Walk up the Chetwynd Road into the village as far as the crossroads at the Red Lion and turn right into Shrewsbury Road.

3. On reaching the cricket ground turn left and cross over to the stile and kissing gate ahead — if a game is in progress it is advisable to walk around the boundary.

4. Pass through two kissing gates/stiles and walk down a path between two hedges to its junction with a lane.

5. Turn right and carry on past a junction until reaching a crossroads with the B5062 and continue ahead into Marsh Road as far as a road junction on the right.

6. Then turn right and follow the lane which becomes a wide track and eventually peters out at a stile. Cross the stile and continue along the right-hand side of four fields making for the spire of Chetwynd Church.

7. On reaching the road turn right past the old schoolhouse and turn right again at the church into a pleasant lane which leads back to the start and gives a wonderful view of the Wrekin directly ahead.
